Mississauga, ON – The Mississauga Steelheads are pleased to announce the addition of defenseman Thomas Welsh to the Steelheads lineup. The 5”11, 200lb 1995 born Welsh joins the Steelheads from the Georgetown Raiders of the OJHL (Ontario Junior Hockey League). Welsh was acquired by the Steelheads on June 1, 2012 from Sarnia in exchange for a fifth-round pick.
Earlier this month, Welsh played internationally for Team Canada East at the World Junior A Challenge in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. He has posted 10 points in 21 games so far this season with the Georgetown Raiders, adding 47 minutes in penalties.
The Steelheads are excited to welcome Thomas to the team. Steelheads General Manager and Head Coach James Boyd commented:
“Thomas is a young defenseman whose skill set complements our existing group of defenders both now and in the future. We look forward to seeing Thomas in action this weekend.”
