Mississauga, ONT – With the season opener drawing closer, the Mississauga Steelheads are proud to announce a new partnership with the Mississauga Hockey League (MHL). Now into their 66th season, the MHL is made up of eight area associations – Applewood, Clarkson, Cooksville, Credit Valley, Erindale, Lorne Park, Meadowvale, and Port Credit. These eight associations manage approximately 450 teams that registered over 6,500 players last season. Through offering multiple levels of competition, for players aged 4 through 20, the MHL ensures that hockey is available to every young person in the City of Mississauga. “The MHL Board of Directors, Office Staff, and Area Associations are looking forward to working with the Steelheads management and coaching staff” says Jeff Leavens, Executive Director of the MHL.
The Mississauga Steelheads are excited to partner with the MHL and connect with all players and parents within each association. Through this partnership with the Steelheads, the MHL will have access to resources that will further assist in developing the players. By providing coaching clinics for all 8 area associations, the Steelheads coaching staff will work with coaches on both basic and intermediate skills, ensuring they have the necessary tools to help develop players of all ages and skill levels. Even at the most basic level, good coaching is paramount to the growth of today’s game.
Steelheads new owner and Mississauga businessman, Elliott Kerr is thrilled about the partnership with the Mississauga Hockey League. “Partnering with the Mississauga Hockey League was the first community initiative we wanted to address as we build our brand over both the short and long term in Mississauga. We are thrilled to report that we will be working very closely together over the coming hockey season as nothing is as important as assisting minor hockey both at the participation level and at the coaching level as well.”
By partnering with the MHL, the Mississauga Steelheads hope to promote the importance of team sports, and continue to support the growth of grassroots hockey in the City of Mississauga.
On the ice, the Steelheads will kick off their home exhibition schedule on Sunday, September 2nd at 2:00pm at Port Credit Arena followed by Wednesday September 5that 7:00pm at Iceland Arena, and Tuesday September 11that 7:00pm at Vic Johnson Arena.
Don’t miss a minute of the action as the Mississauga Steelheads are set to kick off their 2012/2013 regular season at home on September 21st at 7:30pm at the Hershey Centre against the Kitchener Rangers.
